Welcome One and All to... this place.

Welcome!

Okay, so I was sitting down one day thinking (well, actually, it was last night, but bygones) and came up with an idea.

What if we made pants that were made of jello? Just imagine the possibilities here people! Jello pants.

Damn.

But then, because I am not that much of a doofus, I realized that Cosby would probably have a pantent on them already. So I went with my next greatest idea-- the creation of a NCIS Fanfiction Award.

Hence, this.

This is a free community, open to everyone and everything, and because of that we are going to have to abide by a few rules in order to keep from backsliding into chaos and anarchy. I know, I know, anarchy is fun, but my favorite anarchy pants are in the wash and this is what has to be done.

*sigh*

Okay, first come the NOMINATIONS:

1) There are several categories in which a story can be nominated:

BEST TONY/KATE
BEST KATE/GIBBS
BEST SLASH
BEST OTHER ROMANCE
BEST CASE FILE
BEST ANGST
BEST NC-17 STORY
BEST ORIGINAL CHARACTER
BEST SERIES
BEST AUTHOR

To nominate a story, simply send in a post, announcing the name, author, and what category it can be found in, as well as it's location. I will take care of getting it put up here for all to see.

RULES:

Nominations are open now, and will close on the 1rst of August.

Each author may have only ONE story in each category. If someone is nominated for more than one story, the author will be given ten days notice, and told to chose which one they want to stay up. If after ten days the author has not come forward, the decision will fall to me.

Stories may be nominated in more than one category and stand. For example, and NC-17 story can be nominated for BEST NC-17 as well as BEST KATE/TONY. Both nominations will stand, and both will be voted upon.

Any author who is nominated in two categories or more will be automatically put on the BEST AUTHOR ballot, but that title can be nominated as well. If you see an author that you think deserves to be up there and isn't because he or she only got one story chosen, speak up and make your voice known.

And guys? I know the temptation to nominate yourselves it running high, but try and look for other people's work that you really like. I won't allow anyone to come out and put their own story up in a category, because that's not a representaion of what someone found interesting, that's a representation of ego.

Ego bad. Modesty good.

God, never thought I'd say that.

VOTING

Voting will start on the 1rst of August and close on the 14th. After the 14th, the votes will be tallied and winners will be posted.

To vote on a favorite story seen on the LJ, send a email to NCIS_Awards@yahoo.com

Please, no flames and no napalm. We're all here to have a good time. Just remember-- be good or I'll kick your ass.

Or, um, I won't give you any of the marshmellow squares I just baked.

Bwah ha ha.

Just a thought on... CHEATING! duh duh dun

Okay, we have our first ever issue with the NCIS Fanfiction Awards.

Sniff. Such a landmark.

I was talking with Shannon, and we both agreed that since, hey, let's face it, one of us is likely to get nominated for *something* it would be best to try and find someone else to count the votes, so everything is fair.

Does anyone know of anyone who is either a) not an NCIS fanfic author or b) against being nominated in such an awards contest who would be willing to tally the votes for us when it comes time to start voting? I know that in the initial post, I gave NCIS_Awards@yahoo.com as the email addy to send votes to, but we could have them automatically forwarded to the new person's email box, or just let everyone know about the new situation.

So does anyone know anyone like that? Both Shannon and I would be eternally grateful.

A suggestion on categories

Okay, about the categories; y'all were right-- we need to expand the range.
How about:

BEST HUMOR
BEST ANGST
BEST CASE FILE (GEN)
BEST ACTION
BEST NC-17
BEST ROMANCE
BEST AUTHOR

As for the point that there are several types of pairings, not just Kate/Gibbs or Tony/Kate, I was thinking that maybe we should simplify things even more:

Best Romance (het)
Best Romance (slash)

Best NC-17 (het)
Best NC-17 (slash)

How about those as four cover all of these categories? Slash will include both same gender male and female sex, by the way, because there was a question on giving femslash it's own category earlier.

Does this work for everyone?

Voting Extension Period

Under advice from Shannon and the rest of you, I've decided that we should extend the voting time.

Voting will take place from August 11rst to September 12th, with the tally of votes coming afterwards, and the final announcements being made... what, October 11th?

Does that sound good to everyone?
I love the world (xkcd)

Updates. Woo.

Okay, so we've changed the rules (again)--any romance category that doesn't have enough entries will be tossed into "Best Other Romance".

For example, if there's two Abby/Tony nominations, they'll go into "Best Abby/Tony Romance." But if there's only one Abby/Ducky nomination, it'll go into "Best Other Romance." This is to give the unconventional shippers a chance. :-)

Also, "Best Casefile" and "Best General" are now separate categories.

So the categories are now:

BEST GENERAL
BEST CASEFILE
BEST ANGST
BEST HUMOR
BEST NC-17
-slash
-het
BEST ROMANCE
-HET
--Kate/Tony
--Kate/Gibbs
--Abby/Gibbs
--Abby/Tony
--Abby/Ducky
--Kate/Ducky
--Abby/McGee
-SLASH
--Tony/Gibbs
--Gibbs/Ducky
--Kate/Abby
BEST OTHER ROMANCE
BEST SERIES
BEST CROSSOVER
BEST DRABBLE
BEST AUTHOR

For clarification--you do not nominate to "Other Romance". You nominate to the pairing category that the fic belongs under (if it doesn't exist here, let us know--we'll update as needed), and if the category doesn't have enough nominations, the fic goes under "Other Romance".

Oh, and, the nomination period has been extended to August 11th, and the voting period now runs from August 11th to September 12th.

Question for Beka (or anyone who wants to add their two cents)...

"Let's make this even more complicated," Shannon said, rubbing her eyes and sighing in exhaustion.

Should we separate the voting period into two rounds of two weeks each? I was thinking about allowing a limitless number of fics to be nominated in a category originally, but cut it down to five for the second round. Then we can declare a first, second, and third place winner and two honorable mentions. Also, it would allow for a "Best Overall Romance" category--the romance fic that got the highest number of votes in any category.

Example... example... where's my pointer? Ah, here we go...

Say... there are ten stories nominated in the Gibbs/Kate category, twelve in the Tony/Kate, eight in Gibbs/Tony, and four in Abby/McGee. After Round One, Gibbs/Kate, Tony/Kate, and Gibbs/Tony are each cut down to five nominees. (All four Abby/McGee fics move on to Round Two, even if they don't get any votes.)

In Round Two, after the votes are tallied, say, a particular story in the Gibbs/Tony category got 55 votes, while the Tony/Kate one got 53, and the Gibbs/Kate one got 49. The Gibbs/Tony fic, having the highest total of all of the nominees, wins both the Gibbs/Tony category and the Best Overall Romance category.

Or is this just getting too involved?

(I'm looking around at other fic awards contests to see how they work, in case you're wondering.)

Oh, and I've one more category suggestion: Best Crossover.
